Centred on three young men trying to hold down jobs and climb the social ladder in Ancient Rome, the two previous series of Plebs have been met with both critical acclaim and strong audience figures.

The show, which was named Best New Comedy at the British Comedy Awards in 2013, was watched by an average of 924,000 viewers over the eight-part Series 2 in September and October 2014.

The new series – set in 25 BC – will pick off where the last series left off. Neighbours Cynthia (Sophie Colquhoun) and Metella (Lydia Rose Bewley), having been saved from deportation, look set to move elsewhere in Rome in an attempt get away from Marcus. Fans may remember he eventually ended up conducting a romantic relationship with each of girls, without the other initially knowing.

Meanwhile the fate of their unscrupulous landlord will be revealed – Karl Theobald’s character was last seen being chased into the countryside by a pack of dogs, having escaped from prison.

Series 3 of Plebs is expected to air on ITV2 towards the end of the year.
