Director Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch) has created an exciting new portrayal of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous creation, Sherlock Holmes, played by Robert Downey Jr in his new film out on Christmas Day. In this refreshingly updated take on the quintessential Englishman, Holmes displays impressive fighing skills to match his powers of intellect. The production team including overall VFX Supervisor, Chas Jarrett, turned to Double Negative to realise some of the most challenging effects.

Sherlock Holmes is set in 1893, at the height of the late Victorian period. The river Thames is the lifeblood of London and Tower Bridge is still under construction; bridging the Docklands at the East End of the city.

The Double Negative team, lead by VFX Supervisor, David Vickery, CG Supervisor, Rick Leary and 2D Supervisor, Alan Boucek, were charged with the task of re-creating London of the time, complete with a version of Tower Bridge that was still under construction, in which to play out the final dramas of the film.

Sherlock Holmes opens on December 25th, 2009 in the US and on December 26th in the UK.
